What Is This Event About?

Rig-move and anchor handling(AH) operations are among the most complex and dangerous operations done by offshore vessels on the continental shelf. Steadily increasing water depth and operations under more extreme conditions are challenging to the vessels and their crews. After many fatal accidents shipowners and oil companies always look for a best practice to improve safety under these operations.

On top of this, traditional anchor-handling tugs have evolved into a new generation of highly sophisticated support vessels capable of undertaking a multitude of complex tasks, including diving support, sub-sea construction support, inspection, maintenance & repair, well stimulation, fire-fighting, oil recovery, and stand-by rescue. These additional functions require specialized equipment and operating staff, and sophisticated dynamic positioning systems.

As such, new designs of more powerful anchor-handling tugs with improved stability and sea keeping characteristics are being introduced. In order to be able to operate effectively in difficult waters and bad weather conditions, thus a new generation of structurally reinforced vessels are now underdevelopment globally.

Workshop Objectives

Besides emphasizing the importance of good preparation for anchor handling, detailed knowledge of the job, continuous risk assessment and contingency planning and a methodical execution of each phase of the operations, the workshop will also focus on how the developments in the new generation anchor handling vessels will affect the skills, technology and requirements of anchor handling operations. The importance is also placed in the role of hydrostatistics, hydrodynamic, hydrography, naval architecture, nautical engineering and safety engineering in the overall operations and design of the AHT’s, the procedures and connections.
